Protest of Bitola's cabbies

Enraged cab drivers from Bitola staged protest today outside the City House's building, demanding increased number of licenses, Makfax's correspondent reported.

The protest came in the wake of the action for removal of the non-licensed cab drivers from the Bitola's traffic circulation, conducted over the last weekend by the police and the local authorities.

A total of 50 cabbies lost their driver licenses and number plates of their vehicles.

"There are over 500 taxi vehicles in Bitola, which is by far too much for a city of this size. Those 350 of them who have operating licenses are sufficient to satisfy the needs of the Bitola residents", said Vladimir Prckov, a public utilities inspector.

The Public Utilities Inspectorate promised to the protesting cabbies they will come up with response to their demand for increase of the number of licenses until Wednesday.
