Marking the 85th anniversary of birth of Blaze Koneski

The 85th anniversary of the birth of Blaze Koneski poet, narrator, essayist, literary historian, linguist and translator will be marked at the Macedonian Writers' Association on Tuesday. Writers, friends and reviewers to Koneski's large work will deliver speeches. The writer and academician Kole Casule will also speak about his generation's friend. Koneski and Casule six decades ago were initiators for establishment of the Writers' Association of Macedonia and Koneski was the first president of the Macedonian Writers' Association.
Symposium marking the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Philology and 85th anniversary from the birth of its patron Blaze Koneski was held on Monday. Symposium participants will visit Tuesday his native house in village Nebregovo.
Born in a village near Prilep in 1921. Studied philology at Skopje University and worked there as a professor. Was the first chairman of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, corresponding member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts, as well as of the Serbian and Slovene Academies, and honorary doctor of the Universities of Chicago and Krakow. Wrote poetry, short stories, and essays, as well as scholarly works, many of them on the Macedonian language. Editor of the Dictionary of the Macedonian Language, translator of Heine and Shakespeare. His works have been translated into Serbian, Croatian, Slovene, Albanian, Turkish, Hungarian, French, Russian, Italian, Greek, Polish, Romanian, German, and English. Winner of numerous prizes, including the Golden Wreath of the Struga Poetry Evenings.
